Laying the Foundation to Scale an Innovative Program
Leaders of this regional children- and youth-serving organization recognized that their small Sonoma County gang prevention program deserved to grow. Despite its minimal staff, the program was helping dozens of troubled youth get back on track at school and in their lives. They identified key steps to growing the program as:
• Documenting its curriculum and protocols
• Clarifying its logic model
• Developing a detailed evaluation plan
• Conducting a literature review to show how the program’s founder had adapted evidence-based practices in designing the program
The work led to the inclusion of the YouThrive program in the “Innovative Practices” portfolio of Upstream Investments, a resource of prevention-focused Sonoma County programs used by donors and funders.
