A hybrid affordable housing and social services organization serving San Francisco’s aging LGBTQ residents needed help developing a clear consensus on how to grow and occupy the new facility it was planning. Lead consultant Eugene Dilan, President of Dilan Consulting Group, and I were hired to lead a strategic planning project that involved key stakeholder interviews, an extensive community needs assessment, a market/competitor analysis and a SWOT analysis. Following on the heels of the 2008 recession, the project also explored the financial feasibility of different growth scenarios. Subcontractor Metis Partner Solutions’ founder Kimberly Kelly analyzed what the different scenarios would mean in terms of budget and staffing over the coming five years. After a discussion of the implications at a full-day planning retreat, Openhouse’s board selected one of the growth scenarios and our team guided the creation of a detailed implementation plan.
